RE Plant Are Branching Out

This was slightly new territory for RE Plant Hire, although the Company have accomplished thousands of lift processes this was the very first to involve lifting a fallen tree out of the Cleddau River while set up on an ancient bridge.

HIAB hire Haverfordwest

The market town of Haverfordwest is renowned for its picturesque streets and castle, it also has two stunning bridges located in the town centre, St Martin’s Bridge (the old bridge) and St Mary’s Bridge (the new bridge). Objects and materials passing though these bridges is nothing out of the ordinary and are usually small enough to pass through and down the river with relative ease. Yet a 50ft tree that had fallen from the bank side would prove to be too much and had nestled itself adjacent to the old bridge. Due to the size of the tree, materials were being built up as they travelled down the river, this needed to be addressed and taken care of as a build up of materials over time could cause a risk of flooding at a later date.

Environment Agency Wales who oversee the management of water resources needed to remove the tree from its fixed position by the side of the old bridge. As the unusual lift position and the weight of the tree (around 2 ton) both the Land Rovers and small 2 ton HIAB the EAW own unfortunately did not have the capabilities to lift this sort of object in the fallen position.

RE Plant were called in and provided a site visit to assess what needed to be carried out, along with risk assessments and method statements for EWA. The HIAB chosen for the job was fitted with a Palfinger PK72002 crane, able to lift in excess of 13.5 ton and therefore, would have no problem in lifting the tree from the river and also transporting to the EWA depot to be cut up. Due to the organized actions of EWA site manager Billy and his team, the whole process was done relatively quickly and to the highest safety standard.

Keeping Swansea Powered Up

RE Plant Hire help in the refurbishment of Swansea substation

Western Power Distribution have invested £90,000 in the refurbishment of its Swansea west grid substation near Gower and needed a specialist lifting company to help install the various pieces of electrical equipment. This type of lift differed slightly form any other sub station refurbishment job done before as the transformers were cased in a bricked soundproof building to prevent noise pollution to nearby houses.

The site provides electricity to over 50,000 people in the Swansea area and had to be painstakingly planned from start to finish as delays were unacceptable to both Western Power and their customers

As RE Plant Hire HIAB’s all come with digital control our experienced driver Alan was able to work close to the WPD workman, this provides better communication and therefore better safety. As well as the use of digital control the fly-jib gave better crane maneuverability and positioning of the equipment.

Whenever a lift or transport enquiry came into RE Plant Hire that was 2.1 ton or under it would have to have been done by our transit pick-up, but as the pick-up does not have a crane facility the necessity for a Telehandler or Forktruck at either end of the route would sometimes be impractical to both RE Plant Hire and the customer. The new 2 ton HIAB solves this problem, offering you a smaller HIAB that saves both money and loading / off-loading time, also with the option of the Brick Grab Attachment this HIAB may be smaller than its bigger brothers but it most certainly doesn’t loose any versatility to them.

Lidl Roof Top Lift

RE Plant were requested by German food giant Lidl to lift a number of items including steel work and pallets onto their warehouse roof top in Bridgend, the lift process included raising the various materials from ground level onto the roof top which was almost 55ft high. As safety was paramount RE Plant decided fly-jib extension suited this particular lift as it allowed the load to be dropped a considerable distance away from the edge of the roof.

The 1000mph Lift

With a top speed of 1000mph the Bloodhound SSC is set to be the worlds fastest car in 2011, smashing the land speed record by over 200mph.

RE Plant were called in by Careers Wales to lift the outer shell of the Bloodhound from the back of an artic lorry by the Swansea bay museum, the car was to go on show for two days for members of the public and was sure to generate some keen media interest. As the length of the Bloodhound was in excess of 13 metres getting it off the artic and through the small entrance gates to the museum was no easy feet, but Andrew one of RE Plant’s drivers copped with the task effortlessly.
